Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of
I will fear no evil for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
Psalm 23:4 (NKJV)
Where do you focus your attention when going through rough times?
Do you focus on being in the valley – surrounded and hedged in? Do you see the shadows that distort reality and magnify the worst-case scenario? Do you allow your imagination to feed your fears of the evil about you?
Or do you remember that you are walking through the difficult times and not settling down there? Do you silence and replace your fears by being mindful that Jesus is with you? Does your focus on his guidance and protection (rod and staff) bring you comfort that conquers your circumstances?
As you walk through your day, take time to shift your focus from the trouble where you find yourself to the goodness and faithfulness that Jesus brings.
Prayer: Lord, thank you that you are with me. Help me to keep my eyes on you today so I can walk through difficulties in your peace rather than in fear. Amen.
